Hi
I was hoping one of you could help me with a picture of the printed circuit board for a ESAB Smashweld 180
The wire feed doesn't work anymore...
The problem i have with my welder is that a transistor has burned on the circuit board and I can not identify the transistor because it has burned... so I'm looking for someone that will take a picture of their circuit board and the transistor that i need identification for... or read on the transistor what kind it is.
Or even better if some one have a schematic for the printed circuit board :-)
Help would be very much appreciated.... :buga:
Best regards
Kristian

Hi and welcome :-)

Han undrar om någon har en bild på sitt kretskort eller vet vad den transistorn ska vara som är vid gula pilen.

Hans har brunnit.

Thank you for the manual, unfortunately it doesn't have a schematic for the printed circuit board, only a machine diagram... ill continue my search for a solution :-)

Any help here:

Problem med trådmatning Esab SM180

He is mentioning two kinds of transistors early in the thread and there are some pics too.

We can translate better if u find any useful in that thread.

Whats the number of your transistor who seems fine?

Hello Kristian,
Have been to the garage and had a look,i had to take the board out as the component on mine were flipped the other way  .
It says: BD680A and a motorola logo plus capital "T" and 440
The other one says:BD900A Motorola logo and "323"
And some pics.....

There is a good explanation to the reverse mounted transistor. The pinning of the smaller TO-126 package in Christian's board is mirrored to that of the bigger TO-220 package.

The three-digit numbers are date codes. Last digit of the year of manufacture and two digits for week number.
Motorola's semiconductor business is nowadays "ON Semiconductor" , www.onsemi.com .

Christianmoller: seem the transistors on your board to be factory mounted (soldered in the same wave soldering process as all other components), or do they seem to have been replaced and hand soldered?

If there is a part number printed on the circuit boards, it could be of interest to compare them to make sure that both boards are identical.

It can be a good idea to replace the brownish/gold colored RIFA capacitors on Christianmoller's board. When the epoxy plastic has started cracking, a such capacitor can get bad insulation due to the humidity in the air (the internal paper insulation is very sensitive to humidity).
The greyish RIFA, as well as all blue capacitors, are however 100 % reliable.

Hi Guys Thank you for all the help and in particular the the pictures, the transistor BD680A is a Darlinton PNP type transistor 80V 4Amp which lead me to look at the transistor that burned and all i can see on it is bit of a P and 27 in the bottom right side... so i figured it might be a TIP 127
after checking out the datasheet for the TIP127 im confident it is indeed the actual component that is burned.. also the pinout matches the circuit board and the switched BD680A
The TIP127 is a 100V / 5A PNP Darlinton transistor - I will buy one tomorrow and let you know how it worked out.
Thanks you for all your help so far...

Ahhh,dr forsman :buga:
Is there a good source for the Rifa's?
My board has partnr.341399-001B and does look like it's orginal(says the guy that sits with doubble readingglases and a big flashlight trying to read.. )

Yes, some sources for the capacitors might be Elfa, Farnell, or RS Components.
Probably it is better to use polyester or polypropylene capacitors as in Kristian's board. Just make sure that the capacitance is correct, rated voltage enough, and the lead spacing the same as on the old capacitor.

Ok guys, here is an update..
I changed the burned transistor to a tip127 and it now alive... meaning it is activating the relays and the entire thing is some what alive again... still no wire feed though.
so next step is to check the relays and see if i can get it to work.. Ill keep posting my findings.... in the hope that it can help some one else some an other day.
My board has partnr.341399-001B

SUCCESS !
Changed The TIP127 and it brought it put some life back in it...
Changed the BD912 that sat just next to the TIP127 and SUCCESS ! my welder is now working again.
Thanks for all the help guys...

Hi.
I have read the thread and I have the same board, but it is old and has corrosion on the transistors metal housing.
It is imposible to read the numbers on any of them.
I found a picture from a guy in Polen and I could read one ot the 3 transistors to be BC141-16.
Could somone please tell me if the other transistors with metal housing is the same (BC141-16)?
