Hymac 580C Track tensioning

HYMAC 580C
I have a problem with the track tension. I guess that both idler and drive wheel together with the track itself is so worn out that it is difficult get the right tension.
I have replaced the sealings in the adjustment cylinders and started to pump in grease. But I think the piston rod soon is about to fall out of the cylinder.
My questions is.
Is it possible to remove one section of the track to make it shorter and in that case how is that done?
Secondly is there any other remedy for this problem?

Hi Perper

I see, it is not so much happen here on the forum........

Now to your Hymac, buy four flat iron to be fit on your idler Wheels.
Maybe 4 to 5mm thick, it will increase the circumference.
I have done the same on my crawler with the same problem.
Roll them to the right size and attach them with a welding machine.

Hello Tomas
Thank you for your reply.
It seems to be a fairly easy and quick fix.
I will have a look to figure out lenght and width.
I am also going to count the segments of the other track
I have a feeling that it is shorter than the one that´s giving me problems.
That´s the reason why I was asking about shortening it.
The bolts that holds the sections together seems to be press fit and there is also one
bolt that is different from the others. I guess that that one is used to split the track.
If no one has an idea of shortening the track surely will go for your solution.

Best regards

Hi there I don't know if you have fixed this problem but the answer is yes it is possible to remove just one link from the track to give you the tension you require.

Hi Jeremy

No. I have not done what Tomas suggested. The slack is too big.
Can I remove a link anywhere in the track or should it be adjacent to the normal dividing link?

Hi there; it should be done next to the dividing link; but not the dividing link itself. Older machines do tend to suffer from slack tracks due to roller wear and the chain stretching.

Thank you Jeremy

As this will be an "open air" job i will start it with project planning
for let´s say three months.

I have done some digging but have had to bee careful not "upsetting" the tracks.
Been sucessful so far. But I have some work to do where I have to crawl quite
a long distance and that makes me a little more nervous.

Thank you again and I whish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
