Räknade i boken och 10 000 st 580 av olika modell stämmer ganska bra.

Jag har köpt grejer från, Hymac Parts http://www.hymac-parts.co.uk
Det fungerade bra.

Hi there you are incorrect on the identity of that machine it is a Hymac 580 not the later 580B; if you let me have the serial number I may be able to tell you more about it.

Hi Jeremy! Nice with some input from you!
I assumed it was a B model because of the rectangulare cover over the brake drum. I guess my way to sort the A and B model was wrong...

Can you tell us more about the diffrences between the 580 and 580B?

Hi there Ante  yes I used to get mixed up myself until Tony Flint put me right on this; there are two main visible differences between the 580 and the 580B, if you look at the part of the undercarriage where the drive sprocket is, on the 580B it is a recessed plate whereas it is flush on the 580. The other difference is the end of the boom fork where the dipper arm fits; on the 580B this is strengthened with a welded plate, it is harder to spot this difference.
The early 580 machines did indeed have the round brake drum on the undercarriage but later ones had the rectangular cover; the machine in the YouTube clip is a later 580. :thumme:

I will lock for a serial number.
How old is this machine?
Late sixties?

Yes a rough guess would be between 1966 and 1968.

Great thread! I could also need some assistance identify my new purchase. Bought it last Sunday.
Seller claimed that it is a 1969 year model, but I don't know if it's a 580 or a 580b.
Also, where can I find the serial number for closer identification of year model?

haha found my machine on this forum! In this thread:
janebrink @ Hymac 580 b in Sweden

So I assume that answers my question of the model. 580b

This machine is a later 580 not the 580B model a clear view of the drive sprocket gives it away as a 580 and not the 580B which has a recessed drive sprocket. The serial number plate is normally in the cab it could well have been removed or dropped off during the machines life.

Ok thanks for the input! :)
So the plate that covers the shaft to the drive sprocket is flush on a 580, but recessed on a 580b?
This bearing holder/cover plate is sticking out about 1cm. AND is recessed into the undercarriage about 4mm.
But I assume that the difference is becoming very clear when looking at the two models side by side? :D

Just opened my parts manual for the 580b, and now I understand completely what you mean by recessed.
This is without a doubt a 580 without the "B".
Do you know if the parts around the drive sprocket fits both the 580 and the 580B?
My plan is to go 220km one way this weekend to buy used parts of a 580B. I need the shaft, the inner rear bearing retainer, and probably everything in between. But will it fit? Bild

I also went outside to look for my serial number. :)

Hi there; without talking to Tony Flint I could not tell you the difference between the two drives, all I know is that they were different but whether the sprocket tumbler is different or the shafts I don't know? If you let me know which parts you are after I can ask Tony as I know that he had a tumbler sprocket in his collection of spare parts.
According to your machine serial number it was built between April and June 1966.

Thank you for letting me know when it's manufactured. :)
As far as I've seen today, the only difference is that the front end of the "fork" is boxed in, making the bearing retainer recessed.
Tumbler sprocket, is that the big one that pulls the track?

Yes the tumbler sprocket is the drive sprocket for the machine; I have a 580B parts book here and it shows two types of undercarriage, the one of which looks very much like the one fitted to your machine, according to the pictures in the book there is a visible difference between the two drive sprockets with the later type being recessed to have a seal fitted into each side of the drive sprocket.
Unfortunately what the book cannot tell me is any size differences between the two sprockets and the drive shafts.
I am hoping to see Tony Flint very soon and will ask him to see what light he tell me about the two drives.
