Hi all, sorry that I don't speak Swedish. I would really like to but take some time for someone from the Netherlands I'm afraid. Hopefully you can help me anyways; I'm about to buy a 1982 BM4200. The machine is not too bad I think, some rust on the mud guards and cabin. It has been outside for his entire life I guess... The space/play on the bushings is not really bad, the waist is fine only the pins on the quick couplers should be replaced. Last week I visited the machine and tested it. Engine runs fine, brakes are working (not extremely good but fair enough), gearbox sounds good and has no big leakages. Only thing is that one of the air circuits isn't loading up to working pressure. The brake circuit is working, but the circuit for the gearbox stays at 0. When using the brake pedal slightly the pressure goes up, and you can shift gears. What could cause this? Is there some kind of valve between the two circuits that is stuck? Would it be an expensive fix?
Besides that I think that the 4200 is a cassette, because there are quick couplers for the hoses to the loading frame. Are there more differences between a 'regular' 4200 and a cassette?
There hour meter says only 4500 hours, the guy who sells it says it looks to him that that's too little for that age. I agree, but if some municipality bought it, they could have used it only for loading some things once a week.
I think the seat and the tires are original, are there more things to check or the hour meter is realistic? The cabin, counter weight and mud guards are all straight and not bended or welded.

Unless I don't speak swedish I hope someone can help me. If I decide to buy the loader I will certainly need some more advice!

Kind regards from Holland,

Koen

Yes there is a protecting valve that cuts of one circuit if it has a big leakage.
You can see the valve here
https://batrading.se/articles/wheel-loa ... 23/c-27382

The 4200 cassette has a hydraulic locking cylinder for the loader frame. It is placed under the front of the cab.

There is only one thing I would worry about and that is the articulated joint, or waist as you say. It is supposed to be weak on the 4200 so look into reinforcing that area. Some extra welded plates here and there might be in order. It has happened that they fail and actually break in half.

Thanks for the replies!
I read somewhere about the articulated joints that they aren’t that strong. I will search for some examples to look where they exactly should be reinforced. I will have to find out where the valve between the circuits should be. I guess somewhere between two airtanks? There are three tanks I think. Is the gear selection controlled electric and powered by air or is everything by air?

Today I decided to buy it. Price was okay in my opinion and it comes with a high tip bucket and forks. If I have to wait for other loaders I certainly won’t find one for this price with these attachments included. Transport is arranged by the seller so hopefully I will have it on the farm by next week.

9k in euro’s ex VAT and including high tip bucket and forks. About 92000 SEK. Probably way more than in Sweden but it’s not really practical to buy and transport machines from there for me.

Actually the opposite is true. Old volvos are in demand
in sweden and the small 4200 is really popular. One on auction now is at 112000SEK and might go higher. You can probably get a 4400 cheaper than a 4200.

Okay, I didn’t expect that! Maybe sell it to Sweden if it gets to small for us
When I got him home I first go clean it very well and will fix the seals of one lift and one tilt cilinder. Than change all the oil and fix the air problem. I want to sandburst and spraypaint all the parts that goes off for service and repairing, and finally the cabin as well. There are some rusty parts at the cabin, so it will need some welding as well. The roof hatch is rusted as well.. So if someone knows the RAL colors of the machine and where to find the decals, let me know! And I really like the blue decals on the 4000 series, are they original on a 4200 or only 4300 and higher? And there is 15,5-25 12 tyres on it, what is the max size that will fit the standard rims?

Hopefully next week some pics when I got it home! For now some more pictures;

I think RAL 1028 is close. Buy a smaller quantity and test it.

Its not a RAL color from the beginning, its mixed, so you have to mix it if you want it perfect.

The blue decals were available for the 4200 as well as the larger loaders. They look really good with Trelleborg 600 tyres and the blue decals
Here is a one renovera 4200

Follow the hose from the tank on the left just next to the steps. The valve is in the waist. On the inside of the frame. We got one at work that i just replaced the valve on. The valve on ba trading doesn't have the mounting holes on the right place so you must make som new. Or a bracket to mount it on.

Is that part number 10 in the enclosed picture? I will try to dismantle it first and clean and grease it. Hopefully it gets working again. Otherwise I have to order a new one. Is that BA trading selling original parts or aftermarket chinese made stuff? Are there more webshops where to buy new parts like window rubbers, handles, valves etc? We have some Volvo dealers around here, but I'm quite sure they won't have parts of these old machines in their magazines.

I read the instruktions book and don't really understand the 'lyft ocht tilt automatik'. There are 2 switches on the dashboard but what do they do and how does it work? There is also a switch on the right of the tilt automatik switch, is that a diff lock?

Is the lift frame originally painted black or volvo grey?
And does someone have pictures of the original interior of the door panels and the isolation foam in the cabin? After painting I would like to place the door panels and insulation foam, and want it to look original as much as possible.
