another seven loads have got it looking a tad better :thummar:

stuck a bund across the bottom end of the small stream, to encourage it down the pipe it supposed to drop into .... and divert it elsewhere if it doesn't...
will hopefully help stop ths washing out again

could do with dropping a couple more loads at the edge and getting jake down in there to grade it over in places :vissla: ...
tough going trying to tip just the right amount, out of a seven foot wide skip, that you can't see at all !!

bad news was, it's supposed to pee down from about 4 a.m. ..... for three days !!

good news was I'd a truck arriving in the a.m. ..... with a Happy Birthday to me prezzy on't back of it  :thumme: ......
it was a bit early, but I'd live with the disappointment of not having it on the day, LOL :vissla:

FFS!!!!!! .... Fotobucket site was down yet again this morning :aaargh: ..... it's always a bloody Friday :aaargh:

aside from their extortionate new rates and lack of support for historic links, is it any wonder ppl are leaving like lemmings off a cliff !!

have had to sit tight waiting for it today ...... hopefully it'd be back up soon !!! ...... which it eventually was :hurra:

Pam approves of, even likes, the colour, so bonus in that direction :thumme: ... didn't stop the inevitable "How much?" though

A little larger than I've been hunting for, :vissla: but it'll do the job, :thumme: very nicely :thummar: and I can't fault the hours on it - just about run in

not summat to poke yer fingers into ... :skratta3:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/s-l1600%204_zpsbbnl19hm.jpg

was looking for 20-25Kva, but this ain't a lot bigger, will run 'light' .. and frugally ... :vissla:

ex standby, hence the very low hours. Totally self contained and a super silent enclosure. (it is nice and quiet) :thummar:
Full auto control gear, or manual operation and'll run just about anything I ever care to plug into it.
Nice service history, with hours recorded, (to two decimal places), at each service :thumme:

My mate, who does gennies for a living, has failed to come up with anything comparable, for the bucks and rates these sets highly.
He's only ever had one fail on him -- down to some muppet filling with dirty fuel and knackering the pump ....
his advice was "cheap, buy it - good, reliable set ... will last you forever .... save on a coffin and get buried in it " LOL :lmao:

Triple Iveco/Cummins, with a Stamford-Newage back end. :thumme:
New battery, (with auto trickle charger/conditioner, when hard wired), new engine water heater, full 300+ltr belly tank of juice, serviced 3 hrs ago, delivered to me door !! ..... :hurra:
Not been messed about with - as it left the maker's factory

Been looking for quite some time and this is the best I've seen in a while.
Make a grand more, usually, with 4-5000+hrs on 'em !!

Some paint work to attend to, on the enclosure and a couple door locks to replace, but think I can manage that !!

taken bloody months to find it
the good 'uns do not hang about for long  ... had to 'strike' PDQ on this one :thumme:
You can see why .... just the ticket !! :thummar:

First time I've been out the door today  ..... been abso****inglutely lashing it down all day   ..... was expecting to see worse ........ 'bout 6" deep, but the rest has been draining away well :thumme:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180525_17_39_50_Pro_zpslhrjxvxn.jpg

drain sumps are all running like hell ..... first time in a couple of weeks
A LOT more forecast for the weekend, but then it is Aber Steam Rally B/hol. weekend, so what can we expect !! :vissla:
Can't remember the last time they had a decent weekend for it ....
the local park, in the centre of town, will look like the Somme on Monday evening, after all the engines have dragged themselves in and out of there several times ....
very sad for the organisers and all involved, but when will they learn .... this weekend is cursed - end of !!!!

One of the many things I learned, from my few weeks with Alex last year, was 'seal' it down, at the end of the day, if it looks like rain !! :vissla:
Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180525_17_40_00_Pro_zpsxugynmpw.jpg

Reckon this last load of loose, on top'd been everywhere, after the deluges we've had since about 3 a.m. last night .... and the night before !! :aaargh:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

bloody Photobucket has crashed ---- again :aaargh: Friday night /yesterday  .... couldn't even get into their website let alone log into me account :aaargh:

'Praps they've pissed the wrong bloke off!! :skratta3:

been bloody WET again here for the last three+ days and'll take ages to dry out again ....
bad again today, then apparently, dry all next week again :vissla:

let's hope our last week's weather wasn't the only sun we get for this year

Been in touch with the guy who owns the company who has serviced the genny; Gener8genie in Bristol - very helpful chap called Gary. :thummar:

Gonna check out what info he has on it, when he's back 'at it' next week.

Some lectrickery set up on this !

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180526_13_51_00_Pro_zpsx0udp3eo.jpg

Gary is more than happy to help with any issues I may have, or that might arise. :vissla:

Most of it looks to be associated with all its 'Auto-run' / trip in facilities .... :???:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180526_13_44_01_Pro_zpscddygvn4.jpg

cabling and main switch on the right are from the genny ... everything else seems fed from there. :vissla:
Serge, me genny mate,'ll be able to run me through it all Monday, when he comes over.

These supersilents are remarkable, but when you see the size of the silencing system for the engine, it's hardly surprising ... I'll get some pix of this one .... when it stops peeing down - it's huge

The enclosures are probably as dear as the contents ..... acoustically lined to suppress the mechanical noise of the engines, as well as the silencing system, they usually run around 65db max.

I'd been looking at open frame gennies, but decided to spend the extra and get a supersilenced unit ... self contained too, designed to live outside and be weather tight, which is also a plus :thumme:

Been watching/eyeballing all sorts for months (as I do) ... there's a good outfit in Hull sell a lot too ..... who seem to get a lot of 'standbys' , but always top-ish dollar.

A similar pack to this one sold on fleabay two weeks ago for £4.5k with 5200 hrs on it, so when this one popped up at significantly less bucks, with the seeeeriously low hrs, it had to be had . The best one I'd seen in months of watching!! Contact made - deal done ..... and NO V A T !!

£250 quid for tranny was a bit 'sharp', but by the time you run the 130 miles each way, time and fuel, etc., 'twasn't so bad, really.
Plus this has all the auto cut in gear, built in too, if I wanted to lash it in to the electrical system here, but I won't bother with that, unless supplies become a lot more intermittent / erratic .... yer never know???

Hopefully this'll do me ad infinitum, should certainly see me out and'll run anything I'm ever likely to want to use !!!

the supersilenced package is worth the extra - no question - having worked with / around open frame welding gennies regularly ..... it's a no brainer :thummar:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

the rain was absolutely bouncing here this morning!! and we have had some sort of thunder storms this last 36 hours
apparently there'd been something like 15,000 lightning strikes in 4 hrs last night .... none here thank God :thummar:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44269304

and the figure for the last 24 hrs is up over 60,000

plus the rain has been monsoon levels again ....

In the summer of 1982, or might have been '83, we had the most spectacular electric storm I've ever seen ....
sat on a sun lounger, in the garden, 'til 4 in the morning watching it

It went on for hours and seemed 'trapped' over the Usk valley. The sky was the weirdest colours I've ever seen ... :vissla:
no rain, just strike after strike after strike of lightning ... damned near continuous .... was bloody amazing   :photograph:

as for the wet stuff

Bloody weather !!

Rain had stopped .... for now and was really 'muggy' out there by 3 p.m. ..... let's hope that's it for a week or more .... gonna take that long to dry out again here !!!!

Think I might find plenty to do though, whilst it dries :vissla: ..... AGAIN!!!!!! :aaargh:

Serge came round today, lunch time and after we'd adjourned to a 'local hostelry' for some scran, we've been busy with me new toy

Having given the genny the once over, once we got back, we ran her up for 35 minutes.

No leaks, knocks, squeaks, weird noises ... nada; perfect temp. and oil pressure and steady, once warmed up :thummar:

RPM spot on and producing leccy nicely, according to my meter and the on board clocks.

he said the back end on them is a very flexible unit, that can have a lot done to it, to fine tune it for all sorts of out puts, up to 500V

Serge had a couple of dozen of these in a depot he used to manage in Grays, Essex, before returning to this neck of the woods for a less stressed life.

Cummins built units. Rates them highly for longevity and reliability.
Apparently this one even has a modem built into it for remote telemetry control

Should do about 3ltr/hr under load ... less with what I'm likely to use it for

It's been officially declared a bargain and a great buy, by the man who knows them inside out !!  :thummar:

oh aye Mags ....... everyone loves a bargain ..... especially me

Spent a large part of the day yesterday cleaning me new toy, :vissla: removing the spilled fuel from its trip to Druid central and inspecting/addressing some of the panel problems ...
at least sussing them and getting them ready for further action. :thumme:

forgot to say ...... :vissla:
came back from the flower place lunchtime, coming down the drive past our neighbour's (at the top of the drive) field and...
their donkey was shaking summat white, which I thought was a placcy bag, 'til he lifted his head. :vissla:

I could see he'd gotten hold of one of their big white ducks by the scruff and was shaking the hell out of this bird  :uupps: .... like a rag doll!!!!

Stopped and legged it across the field shouting at Henry to drop the bloody thing. :vissla:
Wasn't until I got so close to him to give him a whack on the nose, that he let go :thumme: .... before he got a slap!!

The duck staggered off at a rate of knots, heading for sanctuary, t'other side of a gate, with me trying to restrain this lunatic donkey, from pursuing it.

he's normally a very placid fella ... reckon yon duck must've pissed him off. :thummar:

No way could this duck have stuck much more treatment, without having its neck broken!!!!!

Never seen anything like it before ..... anyone else ?? :???: :???:

I'm told a donkey will give a dog straying into its field/territory, a bloody good kicking and could even kill it !!!!! :vissla:

... you can swop "dog" for "wolf". Use them for predator protection of sheep.
Also Alpacka´s used for protecting sheep against predators!
Never seen it but heard on the radio about it from a sheepfarmer interviewed and from other sources.

Not envious about the Gen! :vissla:

been back to see the 1.5t Ovlov this evening, :thumme: having had a lot of thoughts about the issues it's displaying and discussions with a few folk. :vissla:

Having reached the conclusion, in my mind that, the pump was just not able to dump to tank and was therefore stalling the motor, due to not being able to blow the MRV, I went back for a.n.other shufty. :thumme:

MRV locknut was 'loose' ... running it was still producing 140bar max., but stalling the motor if held against a dead end .... :vissla:
so backed the MRV out gently, until it just started to dump and stopped stalling. :thummar: Clock reading a gnats under the 140 bar.
locked the MRV off and gave it a try.

tracks great, operates great, will pick itself off the deck with no issues, with the blade, boom and/or both together. in a word, appears to perform as it should. :hurra:

The 140 bar, although lower than should be, is obviously all the pump can muster  .... probably a tad tired ..... but it can now dump to tank, :thumme: instead of trying to force oil against a brick wall at end of strokes, etc.

Johns gonna give it some work over the weekend and see how it performs, ... but it's looking favorable ...... let's hope it's sorted ;)

think someone's been trying to get more out of this than it's actually capable of :vissla:

Great you v got i running :driver: ....I´d say though that staling can´t be blamed on worn out pumps, when doing it on, ore below, specified pressure, it must be lack of power or failure to manage said power.....so my thoughts goes to the engine. ( or its components, fuel filters ect.)

the thing is Jörgen .... the system has a fixed volume ..... if you have a pump trying to push more fluid into that volume than it's ability will allow and an RV that will not open at the pump's max ability, one of two things is going to happen .... the engine driving the pump will stall, or the drive to the pump will fail ....(or a hose will burst if it has a weak point) .... simple physics dictates that you can not force more than the given volume of a fluid into the same given space ..... it either has to overflow (through an RV) or stop filling :vissla:

the pump on that should be capable of over 200 bar ..... I cannot get a reading higher than 140 bar cold ..... at stall ..... logic dictates the pump is not making it's full design pressure.
the MRV should be set at 160+bar ..... with it set at that and a pump only capable of max-ing out at 140 bar, the MRV is never going to open to allow the system to bleed off the excess volumes of oil so ..... one of the two things must happen (or a hose will burst if it has a weak point) :vissla:

I agree with Jörgen, there have been a few cases before where a stalling engine was blamed on hydraulics acting up. Turned out to be the engine not getting the diesel it should.
Torque is given by pump displacement times pressure, it doesn't matter if the flow goes back as internal leakage in the pump or not. Enough torque to stall the engine means that either the pressure is too high or the displacement of the pump is too large or the engine is not performing as it should.

If the pump is indeed worn enough that it can not muster more then 140 bar then the full flow of oil is leaking back internally in the pump at 140 bar. No hoses will burst if you try to crank up the pressure above that but pump will overheat very quickly in a stall situation. A hands on test is described here. http://www.insanehydraulics.com/letstal ... ilure.html Note that the test can detect if you have 100% internal leakage at stall, if you have less I think the oil will quickly transport away the heat.
