so ..... back to Alex's
bucket .....
after I'd cleared the patch, of the carpet of leaves, the oaks had very kindly dropped for me the previous night .....
lovely morning ... sunny and still
.... a rare thing up here, hence the carpet of oak leaves ...
wind usually blows 'em into piles around the edges.
An hour with the newly acquired leaf blower/vac. and they were all in a pile at the burning bin, ready to be 'dealt with' !
gear out and I got yon cheek extensions set up ...
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_13_26_02_Pro_zpszatgr9qo.jpgdiscs in and welded, extensions stitched and braced ....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_13_49_24_Pro_zpsp7whb2bw.jpgready for a turn over and t'other side....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_13_52_39_Pro_zpsvczbmhqv.jpgGot them welded up and time for some holes
... wouldn't want to be any tighter to the bucket's body !!!!
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_15_46_52_Pro_zpsbj6p4btk.jpgand had to do summat I've not needed to in a long time ....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_16_25_15_Pro_zps9mnbastv.jpgswap the handles around on the mag drill
... three times !! :o
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_16_43_13_Pro_zpsd6ngyfv2.jpgan essential feature on all mag drills
..... if you're buying one .. make sure it will
and that they'll each unscrew out of their
hub for those
really tight spots!!
Job did ..... but beaten by the curse of the winter-ish months ..... ran out of light
.... and could not find me bar of 45 mm EN8
... deffo here some where???
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_16_56_05_Pro_zpskzjs7lnj.jpgjob for the next morning ... find it, cut some lengths and get 'em welded in
.... if that
pin'd been long enough (for two) it'd have bitten the dust.
Disaster earlier in the day
...... had a blow out
.... managed to 'hold it',
or could've had a nasty 'off' ...
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171103_15_37_27_Pro_zpsb7jsydvd.jpgmy favorite, most comfortable, boots !!!
Out with the evostick this evening
.... they're gonna have to be
beyond redemption, before i surrender this pair to the scrap heap
... takes forever to 'break in' a new pair .. been trying for months, but always come back to these !!!!!!
... But not for much longer perhaps
pin ctrs for this are Jakie 3CX ... 13-3/8" / 340mm to suit an
adapter that Alex has for his dad's Mec hitch from an old jakie QH
wasn't quite enough cheek length to be able to pick them up
Only required for a quick job at this configuration, but needed soon
for those that may have noticed .... there's a bit of an optical illusion in some of the pix ...........
the bucket was sat on the bench ..... on the piss ......
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171106_13_17_37_Pro_zps0szojdy9.jpgcamera compensated for the angle....

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171106_14_53_22_Pro_zpstyojugxy.jpgand parallel to the cutting edge....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171106_14_53_42_Pro_zpsxgvfzm2d.jpg the cheeks are OK / as should be..
got 'em welded in ...... after a quick check on a. n. other issue I thought might have been a problem ......
fired Jakie up
and got yon bucket off the bench ....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_04_16_Pro_zps5sumtcjw.jpgwanted to check that it'd fit on a Jake QH
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_07_24_Pro_zpsvka8q0ai.jpgIt did... knew centres and cheek edge to pin centres were fine
.... but ...
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_07_37_Pro_zpsybfjdfxy.jpg...was a bit concerned that there was going to be enough clearance at the front pin and the front 'beam'
.... not a lot of distance between the pins' undersides and the back edge of 'it' ..
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_07_48_Pro_zpsdluviufl.jpgbut plenty enough !!
so......back on the floor ... eyebolt in the 'very convenient' hole in the sides and slung it round closer to me box .... and Esab ...
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_37_24_Pro_zps6l2oywpx.jpgbit of 'hot stick ...

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_57_16_Pro_zpsvphjq74g.jpglooked aaaaaaaalright

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_58_55_Pro_zpsbdx1zwpe.jpg'curled' sweet as

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_56_21_Pro_zpsbvlyrx3c.jpgLooked to me like a breather vent .... but exuding a little
oil and dripping on the floor, enough to form a small 'deposit'
its located above and between the
boom foot pivot, on the king post and assumed it was a breather for the
slew box ?
Was difficult to get a pic to show it's location ..... thought it might've been a pipe about to let go with the boom up, but stretched out, could see just where the drip was coming from.....
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_56_59_Pro_zpsrjyaiynj.jpgOriginalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_55_54_Pro_zpslc2idpoq.jpgOriginalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_56_10_Pro_zpsfhwgenyo.jpgOriginalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171108_15_55_45_Pro_zpsmquwhul7.jpgIt confirmed my thoughts
I'd assumed that any
leakage from the slew rams was going to find it's way into the slew box and raise levels in there
First time I'd run him in a few weeks ... and operated him in a few months
... not evident the last time I used Jakie and has been parked with the boom 'hung' on its parking post lug .
It smelt like Hypoid and assumed it's the slew
gear box oil ..... either gotten water in there, or as said the slew rams are bypassing oil into the box
An investigation was required
and there was a drain
plug under the box, so it needed dropping out to see what emerged ......... sometime !!
well Alex collected the bucket and I was greeted with a PM on FB
..... followed by a few pix
apparently it does a relatively decent job ......
certainly sorts the shite alright ..
and leaves some respectable looking fines ...
I also had it on good authority ... (little bird told me) that there was likely to be a new arrival any day soon ..... and she looked cool as ......
I felt his pain in the delays he's had to tolerate !!!
..... been terribly slow in arriving ..... from Norway
and that guys is your lot for tonight ..... druid bed time
