Drove quite nice too ..... on the hard ...... 1st gear job in the soft with a loaded skip, which it struggled to tip .... 'twere full, but not stuffed, then second run the clag defeated it .... thought I was gonna have to get pulled out but just managed to get out under me own steam ..... :vissla:

Turned it off for a 'conversation' with Mavis's pilot and damn me it wouldn't start :aaargh: ..... fiddled with everything .... gears in neutral, switch in neutral, handbrake on/off/on bounced up and down on the seat ...... 'kin Nada ... :aaargh: :aaargh:

Alex trudged across and had a fiddle ...... nada ..... :vissla:
then we sussed no neutral light....fiddled with fwd/rev switch AGAIN .....
and away it went, despite already having tried that several times ARGH !!!!!! :aaargh:

Didn't bode well for the day, but must've been the newness of it   was fine the rest of the day, aside from it's struggle to tip/swivel .......

It did have a better forward view than Wacker did .....the only way you can see WTF you're going ... tip it a bit and look under the skip.
With it down you got no chance .... :uupps:
It's fitted with a forward facing camera ..... and no bloody screen :aaargh:

Had me last day with Alex week last Saturday ... after a pretty hectic week. He'd another couple of jobs to go to, booked for months, so we had a lot to do before quitting site for a few weeks.
The previous weekend's 3 days of rain did not help the cause at all.

Got a new lid on the septic i'd been avoiding hitting/getting too close to with Wacker, for weeks ..... :vissla:

a load of form work done for the concreting that should've been sorted way before, but for the bloody weather :aaargh:

the road forms were the crappiest bits of scrap imaginable and if we hadn't have waited so long for 'em to turn up ...... they'd have stayed on the delivery truck .... made a hard enough job serious slog :aaargh: .... but we got there, eventually!! :vissla:

The lil tachi is Alex's and it'd turned up same day as the Terex swivel :thumme: .... nice lil' tool and had quite a few hours on it generally tidying here and there, where Mavis couldn't :vissla:
Bit of an 'acquired taste' .... but nice once you got the feel for the razor sharp sticks! :uupps:

little bit of my topsoil spreading ready for the cultivator/stone bury-er :vissla: ...... if it ever got dry enough to get on it :uupps: ..... 3 days rain at the end of week 4 had left the place in a seriously soggy state and delayed us dramatically !!

Thursday, week 5, saw a hell of a lot of concrete arrive to fill those forms !

Alex and his younger bro., who was in for the day, dealt with that thank **** :thummar: .... I spent a few hours down the bottom end with Mavis, topsoil bashing/spreading/call it what you will :vissla: ... was still pretty 'kin wet in parts and a bit 'uphill' .... with the occasional dash back up with Mavis, to reach some concrete in, in places that couldn't be reached with the chutes. ;)

Friday got spent having a major square up ....to leave the place looking half decent, while absent for 2 weeks .... :vissla:

He also had to re-profile the top end of the roadway/bank, which'd had to be drastically altered, due to a bloody 4" water main :aaargh: .. that didn't exist :???: - damned lucky it hadn't gotten ripped out with less than a foot cover :uupps: :uupps: ...... so instead of being a cut.......it became a fill job

Thought I might have a few easy days this last week :vissla: .... to recover from 5 weeks back 'at work' ..... the boss had other ideas !!!! :uupps:

the 'Drema tripped the 5000 hrs mark Thursday :vissla:

One down side of not being here for 5 weeks is ... the missus has been left to her own devices :aaargh: ..... and dug up a sizable chunk of patio :uupps: ... she'd been on about some flower beds in it for a while ..... came home one evening to find the beginnings of a 'pile' of rubble on me patch .... which had increased substantially by last Saturday :uupps: :uupps:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20170311_16_18_52_Pro_zpskndlnw5k.jpg

in fairness, the patio's succumbed to the cold weather this year (and last) and a lot of the slabs needed replacing, :vissla: so she's re-used any good uns, where she's been able to and now we have two bare patches about 8 x 8ft in the middle  .... (forgot a pic) ... which're gonna get some flower beds built (guess who'll be doing that) :vissla: and planted by the boss :thumme: ...... still fathoming HTF I am gonna get a serious amount of dirt into the buggers though  ..... other than a lorrabarraloads!! (lot of barrow loads)  :aaargh:

Stuck me lil kinshoffer grab on the VA-r and relocated said pile of rubble, from the patch and 're-laid' 'the patio slabs' some where useful

So .....she's had me busy this past week ..... :uupps:

this lot were in a tidy stack .... all spaced out on stickers ... about 10 ft high ... :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20170314_12_25_56_Pro_zpsmyrhyfoc.jpg

which although not its usual cheesecake consistency :thumme: .... was still pretty soft, but dry enough to leave 95% of it up there when I came back down, with a LARGE pile of the most expensive sleepers in all Christendom.

after some considered measuring, calc.ing and chopping with 'Charlie' (the chain saw) they turned into this ........ :vissla:

Bild

ready to be relocated to the recently 'excavated' patio

These sleepers are some of the most traveled you'll ever see ...... :uupps: :uupps:

I used to do a lot of machinery movement and installation for an American co. locally ... made car component pressings for all the biggies :vissla:

these got air freighted in from Chicago on 747s to Heathrow at a cost of $20,000 per unit :uupps: ..... been used to make pallets, for six big C frame Hare presses :thumme: .... they'd gotten held up in some freighting/shipping strike over there and were needed real urgent. :vissla:
Company paid for special, instant customs clearance, on arrival and came straight to the factory, where we'd been sat tooled up and waiting since 18.00. ..... our 25 ton crane to off 'em with and stand 'em up, 2 x 7t FLTs and enough skates, jacks, bars, lifting/shifting gear and cribbing to sink a ship !! :uupps: :uupps:

Arrived at two in the morning (and it was snowing like ****), laying on their backs  ..... we had 'em unpacked, up-righted and installed in the line ready for a 07.00 shift start :thummar: :thummar: .... not a night I'll ever forget .... ..... like flies round sh1t all night !! :lmao:

When we'd cleared up the carnage, I was asked if I would be kind enough to dispose of all the 'crap' :thumme: .... .. "do the bears crap in the woods" ..... these are the last of my Yanky sleepers  .....12" x 6" crossings ...... the 15" x 6"s got used to build Pam's veggy boxes, some time ago. :vissla:

Anyway ..... I now had to relocate these to said patio  .... having spent some considerable time getting these right .... as in ..... the right way round, the right way up and all cut to suit the 'hole' (according to the boss's desires) :vissla: and looking pretty reasonably 'as required', I reckoned the safest and easiest way, (rather than chuck 'em all on the forks and lug 'em round, en mass), was good ol' Manuelle Labori   ...... so ....... :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20170314_16_04_41_Pro_zps33svcfx2.jpg

Just had to get some ironmongery installed inside, to keep 'em all put and in shape ....... and make another one

Then ...... fill the buggers with dirt :aaargh: ........ which was gonna be yet another challenge, in its own right  ...... access onto here is not easy  .... without knackering the slabs  ..... can get close-ish ..... but the final few yards is a barrow job ....... or fly it in by helicopter!!! :lmao:

So guess what I was doing next morning ? ...... No. 2 !!

I suppose, that the timber you name "sleepers" are used for railroad tracks? They are also called sleepers in Sweden, but spelled slipers. (Swedes are, like germans, fond of spelling like pronouncing, and vice versa.) In Sweden, the slipers are made from oak tree and impregnated with very poisonous and toxic stuff, and is not allowed any more for use in playgrounds and flowerbeds or seedbeds for vegetables.

(Swedes are the most anxious and cautious people of the world and we are afraid of everything!) :screwy: :screwy:

It took me half a lifetime to recognise the "logic" naming of these timbers "sleeping" under the rails.

ours are usually pitch pine Lagun ... wish they were oak :uupps:  ..... usually been treated with creosote/tar mix .... left in baths of the stuff for weeks to soak through. :vissla: ..... makes them pretty rot-proof .... as a rule

Interesting take on the name there ;) ..... makes perfect sense too :thumme: ..... have to say not one I'd thought of and often wondered why ... sleepers??? :???:

That sleeper idea came to me when I heared that in South Africa they called the bump on the road for "sleeping policeman"

first weekend I was over at Ross with Alex's job. :vissla:
not been here, since then, to sort out loading a carrier to collect it, for the trip to Ljubljana, Slovenia!! :thummar:

told they'd be here last Thursday ...... sometime!! :vissla:

Didn't think it'd escape off the pallet 'en route' :thumme: .... and'd hopefully'd arrive in the same condition as it left me  ..... driver was gonna be in for a shock :vissla: .. as a lot are ....... when they get unloaded/loaded, by a VA-r wielding, fork equipped 'duck' ...... it's a first for all that've experienced it so far !! :lmao: :thummar:

got a phone call from a truck driver next morning 'bout 11 o'clock ..... "How do I get to you?"

" where are you?"

" Bottom of Penbidwal Lane "

"Don't FFS try and come up there ... it's a struggle with the car!! " :uupps: and proceeded to re-iterate the directions I'd emailed his outfit Wednesday! :vissla: :aaargh:

Good job I can see the top-ish of our drive from my patch ... watched him sail by our turning about 10 minutes later :uupps: .. and just caught him on his phone, before he ended up in a world of sh1t.

He eventually maneuvered his way backwards up the lane to where he should've turned right, :vissla: down the drive and stopped in the turn area by the cattle grid 2/3rds the way down ..... as instructed.!! ;)

18 tonner and was not even gonna try and get him down to me ...... "hang on there and I'll bring the pallet up to you"

Five minutes later he was well surprised to see a duck heading his way with a pallet on the forks ..... :vissla:
Instead of pulling into the turn area, he'd parked across, it along the length of the road and as I pulled up along side him, he says "how we gonna get that in the side curtain?" :???: :???:

"Simples"  said I ..... as I spun the forks 90 to the dipper and slipped yon pallet onto his bed ! :thumme:

He was impressed!! ........ as predicted .... another first for yet another truck driver and Metod's bandsaw was on its way to Slovenia :thummar: :driver:

Sorry ...... no pix ..... didn't have the time

one to make you smile  .... try updating here, with this as a handicap .......

Was gonna see what it looked like last Saturday morning ...... to maybe tackle t'other one, but the weather put paid to that idea. :aaargh:

We had Clara all day Saturday and I had to cope with two and a half hours on me own with her, in the afternoon, while Pam went to her best friend's mother's funeral.

Hell's teeth :uupps: ...... HTF does anyone cope with little uns, all day, day in, day out !! ? :???: :uupps: :vissla:
I was knackered and well pleased to see Pam return  ..... Clara is a full time job .... she is now so mobile you can't take yer eyes off her for a second!! :uupps:
Might've been easier if it hadn't been poxy raining and we could've gotten outside ........ she's such a lil' character though

one grandad power :vissla: :thumme:

Have had the other one of my cats not overly well recently too ... the youngest one .. 6.5kgs of muscle ... off to the vets in the morning for a few teeth out ... he's been having issues eating and he has had to wait over a week to be admitted to have them done. He's been on pain killers and antibiotics for a little while and one of the guys from the CEF sent me this little gem, when I mentioned it on there. ...

"How to give a cat a pill:

Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby.
Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand.
As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger.
Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.
Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws.
Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth.
Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap.
Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains.
Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil, and blow down drinking straw.
Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away.
Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer.
Place cat in cupboard, and close door onto neck, to leave head showing.
Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.
Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges.
Drink beer.
Fetch bottle of Scotch. Pour shot, drink.
Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot.
Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw T-shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from tree across the road.
Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil-wrap.
Tie the little @!!@#@#$%'s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed.
Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak filet.
Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.
Consume remainder of Scotch.
Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and remove pill remnants from right eye.
Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

How to give a dog a pill:

Wrap it in cheese.

:lmao: :lmao:

have had a few like that :uupps: :uupps: ..... and some amazing ones too. :vissla:

Had one in work on chemo for nigh on 3 years ...
he'd be sat on my desk every morning waiting for me to arrive ....
and again at 6 of an evening .....
he knew and was absolutely brilliant at taking his 4 tab.s morning and night. :thumme:
Used to have a vincristin shot at the vets every 3rd week and although he'd sit growling at 'em, they always said he was as good as gold and never scratched or bit any of them :vissla:

He was an exception to the rule though :buga: :thumme:

Slinkymog, sat on the 4 ton Hyster bonnet .... he'd ride around on the FLT for hours ... it was nice and warm
Bild

same joker also came up with this one .......

How to wash a cat

Thoroughly clean the toilet. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape).

CAUTION!!!!!

Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for any purchase they can find.

Flush the toilet three or four times.

Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.

Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.

Sincerely,

The DOG :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I came in to work one morning, many years ago (before Slinkymog was ill) to find him covered head to foot in brown, silty, muddy mess .... he'd obviously been rolling round in a muddy puddle ... probably defending his turf . :uupps: :vissla:

Stuck him in a couple of inches of warm water in the sink and proceeded to attempt to get him clean!!

he looked a bit more cat like, (all be it a very wet one), after about three changes of water ..
sat there good as gold and loved being toweled dry after .... :thumme:
much like the two we have here at home ...
they go out in the rain 'specially to get soaked and toweled down on re-entry :vissla:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

Sat here Monday night thinking .... feels a bit cold in here tonight ?? :???:
looked at the thermostat, which is a wireless unit ... said 18C ?? deffo wasn't that !!

Looked at boiler .... demand light from the wireless lit, but no boiler .... BUGGER !! :aaargh:

had an issue with it a week or so ago, when the remote and the control unit stopped 'talking' to each other :vissla: ... re-set their respective heads and away they went, chatting happily, so thought .. ah! done it again !! :vissla: :???:

Nope ... pissed about with 'em for an hour :aaargh: .... and the thermo is quietly rising on the supposed ambient temp. display, so came to the conclusion that summat was well and truly 'up' !! :???:

it's one of these ....

was rewiring the boiler at 10 Monday night, so's we could at least have some heat and it's currently been on total manual control all week ... with it's inbuilt thermo determining run times and me determining when we need it on / off .... bit cool here this morning .. 'til I gave it the juice!!

New box of magic smoke arrived this afternoon (you know the sort ... when the magic smoke escapes from the box it never works again   ) and got it wired in after Clara had departed site, this evening :vissla:

The boss had a big grin on her face and new remote to play with, after I'd finished and we'd eaten :hurra:

Controlled heating system restored to the Druid's household :hurra:    :thummar:

Finally for tonight ......

New 'box of magic smoke' arrived Thursday afternoon for the boiler and got it wired in, after Clara had departed site

The boss had a big grin on her face   and a new remote to play with, after I'd finished :vissla: and we'd eaten :eat:

Normal service had resumed to the heating system in Chez Druid :thummar:

forgot to mention the other day ...... Met's saw arrived safe and sound in Ljubljana on Thursday :thumme: .... not bad, a week door to door ! :vissla: :thummar:

in this instance, going from 35 to just 40mm, I was helped by the shape of the cutter and the way it'd been ground :thumme: ;) .... it self centred in the existing hole :hurra: .... fortunately ... for me anyway  ..... with a bit of careful setting up !! :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20170325_12_46_52_Pro_zpsmu9c6j2z.jpg

If I'd been going up say, to 45 or 50mm, it wouldn't have been the case  and I'd have cut a 'slug' / blank to fit the hole (35 mm) and centre dotted it as a guide for the broach pin, ;) before securing it in the hole (which was pretty damned tight anyway) :uupps: ....
it'd also provide the activation for the suds feed to the inside of the broach, which'd need it :vissla: ...... (the 2.5mm cut on the outside of the 40mm was adequately lubed by hand) ;) :thumme:

Pick up some 40mm bar on Monday, weld some 180 mil lengths in and job's a good un !! :thummar:
Got 38, 45 and 50 mm ..... no bloody 40 though !! :aaargh:

for my next trick ......... :lmao:

'Nother one for Alex later in the day ... :vissla:

HPX grab related ..... yon grab has an adaptor plate atop of it, to facilitate the connection of a rotater and integrate a check valve into the system .... :thumme:
I have a rotater that'd fit, but Alex wants this set up as a direct mount.

Kins do a kit ...... :thumme:
at a not inconsiderable cost. :uupps: :uupps:

So we had a look at it the other day, when he got rained off and decided that a couple of the drilling plugs, were going to have to become 'ex-blanking plugs' and swap places with some screw in adapters .... :thumme:
courtesy of a lil' Druid magic. :vissla: :thummar:

I started off with a broach, intending to get down beside/around the plugs and get 'em out, ;) but having taken the edge off two  .......
guessing due to the hardness of the area around the plugs being work hardened from swaging them into the drillings, it soon went old skool ..... :vissla:
with a centre drill to start in the plug, followed by a good old fashioned pilot and finally an 18.75 mm (that's 47/64ths" to the old guard) tapping drill for the 1/2" BSP tap that was going in there. :thumme:

Now all I got to do is flush the bugger out and get ALL that swarf out of those galleries !!!!
then I can stick the check valve back in and a few plugs to stop off the now redundant spigot ports, :thumme: 'fore it gets a mount stuck on top .... when I get told what size mount to create !! :vissla:

In the meantime ............ I just so happen to have a few mounts that'll bolt straight on to Mr Kins's std 141 mm x 141 mm rotater mounting centres :thumme: ...... and'll fit under me VA-r !!!!! :thummar:

well it's gorrahava try out !!!!
