forgot to say .....I'd been looking that evening at the fittings for the side ports on the HPX ......

and had thought ...I might have to yet make it a packer block, tap those push fits into the block and exit 90 out of the edge of it  ..... there is f*** all room to get two hoses into the OE side ports

even with a compact elbow, either on the hose or loose onto a straight union, the amount of space is massively restricted by the four lugs on the body, for mounting the ancillary ejector plate attachments  ... might just about get over and behind them with the S50 in place, but it was too dark to get a good look, after I'd found an adapter to fit the ports, for a gander. :vissla:

Can't see that it'd be feasible with 1/2" plumbing though ... 3/8" possibly ?? :vissla:

but i'd been busy on other things all that day ..... might get some time the next day, between 'other things' :vissla: ;)

the Hill picked it up alright though and tucked it in out the way a bit better.
Would probably suffice for loading with too, as there's no forces at work on the hook, other than vertically :vissla:

don't know as I'd want to take the chance ?? :???: safe enough for chucking it about empty though . :thumme:
First time the VA-r's been on in a while !! :vissla:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

so ..... first week of December was a pretty busy one at chez Druid  ..... got the VA-r on for the first time in ages, with the good ol' Cranab under it ...... :thumme:

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171206_11_27_19_Pro_zpstgxhcpcy.jpg

they still chucked rocks about alright :thummar:

and I had a need to be doing so ..... ;)

this lot were all off to a new home soon ......

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171206_10_40_45_Pro_zpsiygyysca.jpg

...... over the next couple of days!!

to ensure a smooth load out, I'd spread 'em about a bit, as some of 'em were a tad on the tightly packed/stacked side ....

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171206_12_00_19_Pro_zpsgymgiyxg.jpg

Plus I'd not had the VA-r on in a while and wanted to be sure all was well with it and there weren't going to be any surprises for me over the next couple of days.

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171206_13_12_06_Pro_zps2ecnbw1j.jpg

thought I might've been pushing my luck with a fifth one on top of the stack of four !!
hopefully this was going to expedite a quick load out at 08.00 the next morning ... neighbours were gonna be happy when I wound her up at quarter to eight to warm up ... :uupps:

reckoned on a 90 minute-ish turn around for the first trip .... ish, then a bit speedier as it progressed ... perhaps :???: .... assuming they got off loaded as quick as they went on, of course ... LOL

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171206_14_27_13_Pro_zps3udb7wwb.jpg

Been a while since they got stacked and I'd forgotten just how easily the 'Drema handled these bad boys  :thummar: .... and just how hard that ol' Cranab gripped the buggers.

I was expecting a few jaw drop looks in the a.m., when the grab started rotating and tilting to juggle 'em onto the transport !!

Tilt rotators are still not that common a sight in the UK and I doubted the drivers coming in the morning had seen one before ... let alone a 'home made' one :uupps:

could have done without it pissing down all night on that Wednesday night ... had been dry for days and the ground was well hard!! :thummar:

not that Thursday morning though !!!

got a lot of what I'd stacked the previous day, loaded out ....

the heaps were diminishing !!

'Twas dark when we kicked off on the Thursday morning  .... and really bloody dark by the time the last load had departed that evening .... :uupps:

those LED lights are brilliant :thumme: ...in all senses of the word  ... to quote Dan, one of the drivers ... "they're ****ing blinding"  :thummar:

Got a dose more of 'em sat in me box, waiting to go on ... :vissla:
need better light behind, couple down the sides to see in the mirrors / cameras ..... oh and a few more up front'd be great too :thummar:

Another early kick off for Friday morning was planned ......... particularly for the neighbours

forecast was drier, but felt like snow about!!

what a bloody day it was the next morning :uupps: ... 7.45 kick off again :vissla: and bang on the dot it started snowing  .... properly!!!! :uupps: :uupps:

Was very lucky that the ground was so wet or we'd have had a fair covering .. hills all around were seriously white. :uupps:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171208_09_40_05_Pro_zpso19iar0m.jpg

Was coming down so hard at one point that morning, I had to stop  ... couldn't see WTF I was doing :uupps: .... didn't get a pic....all you could see was white !!
....and it came down most of the day

last of the rocks departed Friday and had a bit of a rough tidy up... between load outs :vissla:

some cover was required where they'd gone, :vissla: so several loads of 'Druid dirt' were required :thummar: ..... VA-r off and me favorite Geith on, for some bank ripping.. :thumme:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171208_13_50_42_Pro_zpsrxt9ifvi.jpg

first to go was the 'shelf' where I'd lifted a load of stuff down from recently. ;)
Wouldn't believe this was the same day .. a rare glimpse of sun today between the snow storms !! :uupps:

then it was on with the forks and lift down anything I could get at, as the requirement for soil hadn't been fully met  :thumme: ..... had stuff lying about all over the place by the end of the day  ..... a BIG tidy up was going to be needed in the morning. :uupps:

So glad I put those LEDs on the old girl .... got dark, seriously quick and VERY early those days .... 12 more days and it'd be the shortest day ... AGAIN!! :uupps:
where the hell do the weeks go?

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171208_17_40_51_Pro_zpsuoej2efc.jpg

Again, the snow did not help 'the cause', once it got to lighting up time and have had the front window open most of the day  ..... and the heater on full bore :thummar: ..... hell it's been a cold one today, with worse forecast for the weekend.

as said ..... I eneded up with stuff strewn about all over the lace ....

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171208_17_24_17_Pro_zpsv9dfopnr.jpg

I Know I keep saying it but, great lights those LEDs
when the big yellow thing goes down it is SERIOUSLY dark up here :uupps:
the headlights on her are halogens  .... amazing the difference :uupps: .... and halogens were considered the mutt's nuts at one time!!

18.00 Friday .... last load gone and time for some breakfast  ..... hadn't had a chance to stop all day, between loading out and prepping for the next load ... I was proper hungry !!! :vissla:

God knows what it was all gonna look like in the 'cold light of day' ... passable i hoped !!!!! :uupps: :uupps:

Saturday's breakfast consumed, :thumme: woodburner cleaned and prepped for ignition later,  all chores sorted :vissla: ...... time to go look at the carnage  ..... before it snowed again  ..... and Clara arrived  :D

Didn't get much done before the little un arrived though :vissla:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

was about to go to bed that Saturday night and switched the outside lights on, for one of the cats to dash out for a pee ... looked out and it was snowing like **** !! :uupps: :uupps:

Forecast had said we were in for 26 hrs of it and hell was it coming down :uupps: no wind at all and just dropping out the sky :vissla:

Sunday morning about 8 am .......

I'd left her the wrong way round Friday evening !!!! Was gonna have to hop her round to blade me way out the way it was looking :uupps:

8" by 8 that morning and we had another 6" through the day ....was still coming down well, as it got dark but wqas supposed to stop about 5 a.m. on the Monday ....... we'd see!

well by the time i surfaced properly it had stopped  ..... but .........

we'd got a good foot plus of snow now .. everywhere :uupps: .... first job was clear some tracks around the house and to the wood shed .......then manually dig the Rangey out,

I'd had a call from the new MIG welder's supplier's delivery driver early Monday asking directions and instructions :uupps: .... "ring me later in the week ... I ain't towing you back out today"

the bins are pretty sheltered from the sun and any wind .... gives a decent indication of exactly what we got

Not much by you guy's standards ...... but for here ... 'twas a lot

poxy white sh 1 T :aaargh: .... I really do hate the stuff, with a passion  .. just work ...... lots of it!!

Plus I needed to get out Tuesday ....

..... and having had to negotiate that bit of drive in the past  ... usually sideways, it had to have the shovel to it . ....

I'd be parking up on the patch after ... nice and flat/level ... when I came back. No worries about doing the full 4 wheel drift maneuvre on the cross slope .... there ain't one up there !!

I'd seen enough snow for 2017, those last 48 hrs :aaargh: .... it's very pretty to admire nature's wonders  .....

.....but it's 'kin cold, bloody inconvenient and you can't see a damned thing buried under it !!
There was 2 grabs, five head plates and a few other bits an' bobs under this pile of whiteshite .... somewhere ?? ... that needed attention :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/scans/WP_20171211_10_09_15_Pro_zpsu6tkl55q.jpg

needed to get the one finished, put t'other one back away, out my way and tidy up from last weeks escapades, :vissla: on Thursday / Friday, "getting me rocks off" as some would put it ...
Was nice to 'unload' them all, to one destination, in one hit. Busy couple of days though .... jeez there were some lumps in that pile !!!

well I had to tackle the drive on tje Tuesday  ...
ordinarily I'd have said sod it 'til it melts, :vissla: but needed to pick the little 'un up, pick up some milk from the village and a Crimbo tree for the boss
(the BIL's are now toooooo tall to even be arsed with contemplating dropping one) .

Up was 'interesting' :vissla: ....... back down was just plain exciting   ..... twice was enough for one day

the good news was .... it was thawing rapid out there, although I didn't really don't know HTF the gutters were still up

I was hoping that it was gonna look a lot less white Wednesday morning !!

Oh and I had to stop me new MIG being delivered again Tuesday .... they'd still never have gotten back out !!!

I'm pleased to say that we don't get it every year and deffo not on this scale !! ..... but when we do ..... !!!!!

If it hadn't been forecast to thaw, and piss down with rain on the wednesday, I'd have had the 'Drema spun around and me 7ft bucket on clearing it all off the drive Tuesday.

Was melting well Tuesday night and we had a few avalanches off the roof all through the late evening ....
you would not have wanted to be under it for sure ...
to my amazement the gutters stayed up, thanks in part perhaps to me clearing the over hanging stuff off ;) and chamfering it off as best I could reach.
All slid off without damage anyway.

Might be an idea to knock out some snow board brackets for next year and get 'em up. :vissla:

As said ..... thawed real well ... 'cept for the shared parts of our driveway (which is a lot of it) where the neighbours had been charging up and down dozens of times a day, playing with their four by fours. :aaargh:

Was well packed and bloody treacherous Wednesday morning, when Gill from Phil Weeks in Bath rang ... again .. wanting to deliver me new inverter MIG. She wasn't taking no for an answer  ..... until she got to the top of the drive !!

"Er ... can you come up and meet me"

so emptied the back of the RR and headed up .... three attempts later, at the bottom bit, which there is no chance of 'charging' at .... and a very slidey ride to the top, I had it in me boot, on the way back down at a crawl on 3" of solid ice in places.

the last bit's one of the worst, as I have to make a right into our drive ...... or make the decision to use the escape route down to the neighbours!!

After a particularly hairy right, i went back with the shovel and 'attacked it'
no way was I doing that maneuvre again !!!!

should make for an easier entry/exit .... but was hard work hacking that lot off to make a decent run out of ours. :thumme: ... Then it absolutely pee-ed down ... on me!! :aaargh:

Was hoping this lot'd be completely gone in the a.m., but hell there was some water running in all the drains !! :uupps:

That Wednesday turned into an expensive day .... new welder  ..... and found meself a great fuel tank

Loads of ports, 3mm thick and under cap., for bunding requirements and transportation :thumme:

Hazardous Goods Container .... God knows what it'd cost new, from the original suppliers  ..... German engineering at its best :thummar:

Conversation with the seller that morning to check he'd let me book a pallet collection ... and bought. :vissla:

Said he's had loads of 'em in the last 12 months and this was the last one, getting knocked out at a bargain price ...
had been selling 'em for a grand, so I was well happy with £375, plus another 50 quid for the pallet freight guys. :thummar:

No way could you make one for that and didn't mind paying that for a brand new item !!

Dip tube to the bottom and a QC for me new fuel pump ... job sorted and'll beat the hell out of 45 drums.

Nice and compact too .... metre diameter and 1300mm tall ..... let it weather for a few months then get a few coats of shiny shite on it .. will last me for years and probably see me out !! :thummar:

As usual ... anyone wanting any more pix of anything ... loads more here ......

'Evening all ..... again ;)

since buying the tank in the previous post I've had all sorts of reports and comments on the suitability of galvanized storage tanks, for red diesel ... ranging from a total no no, to OK .... was certainly advertised as a fuel storgae unit ... even on the manufacturer's website :???: :???:

Anyone care to add their two penn'orth to the 'debate' ??? :???: :vissla:

anyway ..... as Monty Python would say "and now for something completely different"  ......

Found a lovely D S & G type 17 lathe on ebay, mid November :thumme: ... messaged the guy about it and got a call fairly quickly.

Same as I used to have and a superb lathe. Been used in a tool room situation for years and guy sounded like he knew what he was about. :vissla:

Got a hold of Mog (one of the guys on CEF, who'd brought the 'Drema home for me) as this was supposedly about 20 miles from him and he is 'the kiddy' to have collect anything like this ... it's 3.5 ton. :uupps:

"Yeh, no prob.s. Get me a post code and address, I'll have a look and give you an idea on cost" :thummar:

Got a hold of the seller again and asked for a location .... "well it's a bit tight, down a 'ginnel', but we got it in here OK"
The 'ginnel' was down a back lane 8 ft wide  (a ginnel is like an alley)
"So what's your post code/addy, so my mate can come reccy the job?"

"If he calls me when he's on his way, with the lorry, I'll tell him and talk him in"

"Er ...... I don't think so mate ... no addy, no come"
!!!!!

After much argy bargy-ing I failed to get a location, so told the guy I was 'out' ... no longer interested ...
not paying for, or wasting Mog's time to get there and find a nightmare scenario!! :aaargh:

Had a few messages for days and calls which I ignored, :vissla: 'til i got one last message saying "who dares wins" .... cheeky bastard!! :uupps:

Damn me, message in me inbox last night ... " wondering if you're interested in the DSG Type 17 " LOL

HTF do people expect to sell gear with these sort of attitudes. :vissla: :uupps: :???:

His D S & G is now worth half of what he wants for it ...
he can't sell it, eight weeks later and it sounds a nightmare collection.

If he's prepared to move on the asking I might just get interested again .....

if I can have an addy for Mogman, to do his stuff. :thumme:

Don't hold yer breff though, this guy sounds a complete idiot, after several conversations about his location!! :uupps:

Give me strength :vissla:  :aaargh:

As a further twist to the tale  ..... A few days after I'd given this idiot the elbow, a Mitchell came on Fleabay, in darkest Kent  ...
guy was very affable on the 'dog an' bone' , had easy FLT access, it had a 3.5" mandrel  a short-ish bed length and was only 10ft O/a length .... Ideal .. :thummar: :thummar:
oh and it was bloody cheap.
Emailed Mog asking if he ever got down that way ... " I was down in the next village yesterday collecting a m/c " :uupps: FFS

Affable though the seller was he wanted it gone and couldn't wait for another 'possible' collection date, so got a pallet quote from Pallex ... 140 quid ... very reasonable. :thummar:
Got a hold of the seller again .. "Can you put this on a double pallet/skid stillage of some sort and I'll get it collected?";)

After a couple of days waiting to hear from him, and with Pallex calling me daily, to ask if it was collectable yet, he comes back to me to say he couldn't find a suitable pallet

so that was the end of another possible ... I'd have paid him for the 3 x 3 to make up a suitable skid to transport it on  :aaargh:

haven't dared look on Fleabay since :vissla:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

so ..... 19th December, late morning - it arrived. I'd been chasing Pallex earlier that morning, as the tracking hadn't changed since 06.00 on the 16th, when it said it had arrived at the depot? :???:

Driver was lucky I was here, :vissla: as the last email back from them had said probably the 20th ? Not that it was urgent, but I needed to be here to offload it and sign for it !!

came off easy as on the pallet truck and tail lift ... :thumme:
saved me winding the ol' girl up, although I' was using her for the rest of the day, later on ... :vissla:

Bild

as advertised ... brand spanking and smells of now't ..

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171219_12_52_52_Pro_zpscdwpvbvu.jpg

lots of 'ports' on it and according to the book, that arrived with it, still in its sealed placcy bag, along with labels and a tap top, it was double skinned !!! :thummar:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171219_12_53_05_Pro_zpsw9vxjws3.jpg

it'd even got a dip stick port and graduated dip stick !!

Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171219_12_54_42_Pro_zps7dpbgez6.jpg

whipped it off the pallet and stuck it out the way for the afternoon ... I had some tidying up to do ...... :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171219_15_05_56_Pro_zpshor33wzs.jpg

aside from a bit of dust, there wasn't a mark on it ... 'Twas the mutt's nuts of a tank!!!

As said, been putting the trailers back where they usually live, :vissla: followed by tidying away the crap and stuff that got hauled down from the top level - rock moving day and just dumped, when the rocks got shifted and I had to pull some more soil down to load out. :vissla:

Buckets and grab strewn about too, so got them stashed away, out the way and tucked some 'large' pallets of stuff into the corner.
Would've been an easier job with the VA-r on, but managed with me straight forks and a little judicious fork and machine positioning/juggling.

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/WP_20171219_14_56_14_Pro_zps6brazuqh.jpg

Also needed to get at me burning bin, which I'd foolishly trapped behind all the junk  .... I'd not burned the rubbish for nigh on two weeks and it soon mounted up. :uupps:

WTF does all the packaging come from and WTF do we all have to tolerate it !! .... :aaargh:
been threatening to take it all back to the supermarkets it comes from and fill their bins for years :vissla: .... just too much hassle .. quick match and it's gone !!

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/scans/WP_20171219_16_15_09_Pro_zps5turxfsc.jpg

good South Westerly that night again .... fortunately ... some of that placcy packaging produces some shite ol' smoke !!! :uupps:

Hopefully it was going to be dry the next day, to get the lid off yon tank, investigate the insides and check it out to see if it really is double skinned, but was going to be surprised if it wasn't as stated in its lil' book ... it's a beautifully crafted piece of work !!

Only thing missing are the hold down bolts for the domed fill point lid ....

might consider contacting Chemo and see what six'd cost ...... or I'll have to knock some out. :vissla:
Bolted down with some M10 x 70s that night to keep the weather out, with the nice O ring seal on the lid !! :thummar:

Ground was gonna need to dry some yet, 'fore I could get 'the residue' tidied into a heap and out the way. ...was like mud pies ATM !!

...... knowing how you all love a good pic  ..... great sunset that night

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/scans/WP_20171218_16_29_46_Pro_zps5pv99wia.jpg

could do with a few more of these ... and the days to follow them :vissla:

had been a dryish sort of day .... least the air had been, but hell the ground was still sodden
Was gonna take weeks to dry out from all that white stuff melting.

so by mid day, the next day........ I'd had the top off ..... and ..... it was galv ... everywhere !! :vissla:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_25_46_Pro_zps6ornibcq.jpg

and double skinned, apart from the top dome...... very cleverly double skinned !!

bear with me and I will endeavour to explain

the top dome end is a smaller outer diameter than the bottom one ....
the inner vertical wall is welded to the inner diameter of the top.
the inner's bottom dome's outer diameter is welded inside the vertical's diameter.

the outer's vertical wall is welded to the outer diameter of the top dome and has a bottom dome the same outer dimeter as the outer vertical. :vissla:

I am guessing the separation between the two skins is circa 6mm .. no idea what the separation is between the two bottom domes ends. :???:

It has a 'leak indicator system' fitted, to alert you to any leakage from the inner to the outer containment skin, which seems to be pressure based and is what this thing is ....

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_45_15_Pro_zpsu6qtd8ae.jpg

and this 'tap' presumably allows pressure to be balanced in the void ?

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_45_27_Pro_zps4yboawjy.jpg

I had a book for it but it was all in German .... some googling was required to suss the 'nuances' of it all and WTF the fluid is in the indicator !! :???: :???: :uupps:

Pressure is transferred via that flat plate under the tap and also one under the indicator's spigot which connects to the void ...
you can see the step in the outer skin, forming the pressure channel.

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_15_52_22_Pro_zpspmsnpyux.jpg

several options to fill it ..... two have a drop tube to the bottom of the tank ..
one is the intended filler inside the domed top hatch....

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_36_07_Pro_zpsb9mfdtyr.jpg

and the other is the 2" nom. bore suction pick up, beside the fill port above.

the 'fill' port has this sat in its aperture for any course debris !!!!! :uupps: :uupps:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_36_35_Pro_zpsgm5cqiaf.jpg

God forbid yer filling with anything that'd catch !!!!!

there is also a vent port ....

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_49_42_Pro_zps1cgil7lh.jpg

which this vent stack attaches to !!!!!! :uupps:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_48_13_Pro_zpsyhtdfaiq.jpg

which is obviously removable for transport!! ;)

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_48_20_Pro_zps8aixytxi.jpg

The vent port one could also fill through, but would be a 'crash fill' into the tank's contents ! :vissla:

Plus there's a small pressure release valve to prevent any pressure build up in the tank .... presumably if stood in the sun / for temp. rises and drops ... :vissla:

couldn't see any thing that'd let pressures equalise as temp.s drop though ....
unless there was something trick in that release, that I'd not spotted yet. :???:

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20171220_14_49_55_Pro_zpssy3ka7wt.jpg

plus ..... the dip stick port which has a sealed cap and one more blanked port in the top plate, with an inch and a quarter bung in it, presently, behind the PRV above. :vissla:

This is beautifully put together and must've cost a fortune new.

Going back to the first pic ... I'd had a brush in there on a long handle and a dry mop with a fluffy rag around it in the bottom and had virtually now't out of there.

was going to have a long handled wire brush in there next and give the black marks a scrub, together with the rest of it to make sure there's now't gonna 'wander about' in there. Then give it all a good hoover out. ...... that was before it started raining .... for the last month :aaargh: :aaargh:

The dilemma now was .... did I use it or not????? :???:

needed a good chemist to talk to I thought, for some exactitudes on the precise effects of cherry on zinc coatings, degradation timescales, etc. ......... and I had just the man in mind !!.... not managed to have the conversation as yet though

one of the guys on CEF reckoned it could have been good enough for NASA to have commissioned but in response I quoted hime a John Glenn quotation

?I guess the question I'm asked the most often is: "When you were sitting in that capsule listening to the count-down, how did you feel?" Well, the answer to that one is easy. I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch and knew you were sitting on top of two million parts -- all built by the lowest bidder on a government contract.? :uupps: :uupps:

far too good a quality for a NASA job

I'd also got the leak detection / monitoring system sussed .... found on Google eventually

P33 onwards is the English version .... don't know if there's a version for you guys :vissla:

https://www.afriso.de/htdocs/ba_doc.php?ba_doc=2574

Looked well techy :uupps: :uupps:

also explained why there are two dimensions for the "wall thickness" on the plate ... 2.8+mm being the mill rolling tolerance for 3mm plate ..... :vissla:

and the "Antifrogen N (12l)", which is the leak detection fluid in the "interstitial space" :uupps: .... new phrase on me, that one :vissla: ... the gap between the inner/outer skins. :thumme:

the book and certificate that accompanied the tank says it's purpose built for the storage and transportation of highly flammable goods ;) :thummar:

Interestingly Chemo now seem to be calling themselves Cemo, which makes googling them a tad more difficult .. until you suss that fact!!
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

23rd December ......... for the first time in ages, was a beautiful morning, .......
'least it was up here .... not so hot down in the valley ...

and getting doted over !! :vissla:

apparently we all needed some exercise in the afternoon .... so Pam dragged us all off on a 5 mile route march .... Clara'd had enough of being pushed on her trike, half way, evicted Shem from his pram and took the easy route back to the car, with the little un strapped to his mum's chest, both of 'em fast asleep !!

Guess who ended up pushing both ways !!
Old railway line, which has been tarmac-ed and turned into a cycle route, come jogger's paradise :vissla: ... least there were no hills a loco couldn't handle on it.

T'other side of the town, so thought I'd pop into Screwfix on't way home .... as we were passing, ......

and pick up one of these ........

one of the guys on CEF posted a great, but such a simple, neat, but clever idea involving one of these

Amazing grip on it :uupps:

you'll have to wait and see what happened to this

then of course it was time for seasonal felicitations from chez Druid .... in a very wet and soggy South Wales

Was a good day to be indoors :vissla:

All present and correct, for the first time .... ever, on the 25th :thummar:

Hope you all had an equally good Christmas day, as we had.
Granny was ecstatic all day!! (and turned out her usual top notch scran, for the hungry hoards) !!Mmmmmmmmm

Regrettably it beat me  .... I daren't eat too much, or I pay for it :vissla: ... only so much room for a spleen and a stomach in my abdomen :vissla:

I gave it as good a go as I dared though

Josh, his wife KM and granny's new grandson left for KM's parents the following morning   and they'd been happily ensconced in Solihull by the time the white stuff kicked off later that evening :uupps:

It had been a grim ol' day here weather wise .... started with some sun, when the kids left and went down hill pretty quick after eleven. Lashing it down all day.

Was chatting with Alex on FB that evening and he said "how do you like your snow ?" ?? :uupps: :uupps:

looked out the window and OMG !!!! :uupps: :uupps:

Forecast was saying all night ..... bugger .. not again !! :uupps: :uupps:

At least the kids and Shem had left in the morning and were up with t'other granny/grandad in Solihull for several days, so no anxious GrannyPam, with them out and about in it. :vissla: ;)

'62/63 started Boxing Day ..... and forgot to stop !!!!!

and '81/'82 was pretty serious too  :(

would have to do a lot of digging, (pardon the pun), for some of me own photos ... but deffo got a fair few .. was quite a winter

Took two days to dig me driveway out so's I could get my landrover out, where I was living at the time :vissla: ....
problem with 5ft of snow, by hand, is WTF do you put it, :???: :uupps: when you're surrounded by that much !!! hard work tossing it up over the 'high wall' ! :vissla: :aaargh:

snow was horizontal all night  .... anything north facing had an inch glaze of frozen snow by the morning  ..... fortunately we only had about an inch of frozen white shite left the following morning, but the wind was enough to take your ears off  ........ at the neck!! :uupps:

Now I realise that compared to some of the weather extremes you guys get, ours is sub tropical, but it still precludes getting a lot done, a lot of the time  .... and our authorities just aren't equipped to cope with anything worse than a heavy frost

Mags sent me a few pix of the snow at his place a while back .. a good couple of feet ..... if that happened here the place would grind to a halt .... it does with 20cm   .... but you guys are a good way closer to the roof of the world than we are ;) and equipped to cope .. regularly

We did have this strange yellow thing in the sky though, for a little while on the 27th   then it started to piss down again .... for days
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

by the time it got to new years eve we'd had nothing but torrential rain .... bloody good job it wasn't snow

It had absofknlutely HAMMERED it down here all that night, yet again and would have liked the bloody rain to stop The ground was like a sponge under foot.
I really needed some dry weather to get some stuff done :vissla:

There was jake's kingpost to do, finish tidying up after the rock, etc. dispatching days and .....
me P38 would appear to have gained a fuel leak,  ...... I was guessing up on the flow / return lines; return most likely, on top of the fuel tank. :aaargh:

So I needed to get that up in the air and get the bloody tank off to investigate.

Very strong smell of fuel, although now't visible and a quickly descending gauge.

The pump runs, even on LPG so had to be sorted, but some dryness would've made the job a little less unpleasant .... it's a BIG tank (80 ltr) and'd take some handling down.
Some Googling indicated it's a known fault, as the fuel lines age and she's 20 years old now, so ....
Doesn't look an easy task !!! :aaargh:
Could really have done with me 4 poster! when I eventually got around to having a look at it :vissla:

it was bloody wild here for days and the 4th was the worst winds in a very long time !!

small to medium-ish tree down on the fence line above me patch  ... was gonna have to stay there 'til it calmed down a bit, to get Charlie the chainsaw at it, :vissla: plus a couple of slates off, just below the ridge tiles, on the house roof, which got lifted by/as the slates departed :aaargh:

God only knows where they ended up? I could not find them ... anywhere !!

I managed to get the ridges virtually back into position with a couple of lengths of batten strapped together, but was gonna have to get up there ASAP and bond them back into spot, along with a few slates. :vissla:
Pam did one from the basket, maybe two years ago, but getting her back up there is not gonna happen  !! Roof ladder job I fear ! :vissla:

I'd like to meet the muppet who roofed this place  ....... not the best of work and being so exposed it needed to be a good job :vissla:

may need to learn a new skill ..... if the weather ever improved !!!!!! :vissla:

it didn't not for several days .....

11th of january and ....we had a visit from the big yellow thing .... and no rain :uupps: :uupps:

So had the P38 in the air .... and couldn't find a damned thing wrong????

Had her booked for an MOT the following morning at me mates place, so would see what we could find on his ramp ..... but now't at all that morning here ... all dry as a chip :???: :???:

Might possibly be a split breather-or a fractured balance pipe ??? :???:

but before it gets another fill up that bloody tank is coming off :aaargh:

this is a P38 tank ....

I'm of the opinion that one of those little interlinked breather / balance pipes has let go ! :( ..... and I'm guessing it's the lower one ... or maybe even the intermediate one !!

too high a level and it's gonna leak

Going to run it down on fuel 'til the light comes on indicating 2 gallons or less and have it off, next dry day !! :vissla:

fast forward a couple of weeks .... with virtually naff all done ..... it's rained damned near continuously .. and we're up to last Friday ...

and the weather relented for a few hours :uupps: :uupps: ...... I managed a couple of hours outside, with it dry enough to get the leccy gear out ....

Got some more holes into one of Alex's S50s, as he's in need of borrowing me beam again. :vissla:

God knows HTF he's getting about on his job site, with all the bloody rain we have had, almost continuously now since God knows when !! [Looked at some pix the other night and it was the first week of july, last year that I was last able/it was dry enough, to get down into my tip field .... seven bloody months !!  :aaargh: ]

Anyway ... I hauled me beam out from behind everything :vissla: ... good ol' girl started first flick as usual :thummar: ... weeks since I ran her up last and whipped the roller off the beam. :vissla: :thumme:
Alex prefers it without for what he's spreading about. :vissla:

Dropped the roller out the way and in a safe spot....

then lifted the beam onto the bench corner .... easier than groveling on the floor... ;)

then picked the S50, with the 'Drema, onto it, :thumme: having remembered just HOW heavy these buggers are and after lifting it onto the bench earlier to perforate it  .... the body wasn't going to cope with a second go and was complaining !!!

Got it bolted into spot, just in time, before he arrived with his trailer, to give it a ride to site.

Must've been the first four to five hours we've had, consecutively, that it hasn't rained .. certainly this month !!!!! :aaargh:

Been crap again each day over the weekend and snow forecast for tonight..... AGAIN!!! :aaargh:

We had BETTER have a good summer after the last 7 months - so far - of winter or monsoon type conditions !!

And that guys gets you an' me up to date ..... yet again :hurra:
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!! :uupps:

we actually had a few dry hours Sunday  .... to my amazement ... :uupps: :uupps:

aside from all the various, "can you justs" :vissla: that've been 'waiting in the wings', whilst it pissed down, that I had to get done, I found half an hour to wrap my head around a bit of an essential requirement, for the coming phase of 'my dig' !!

I've managed 'til now, without, but I am gonna be in need of one of these I fear, for some of the next bits ..... :vissla: :uupps:

As you can probably see from the scale of my trusty coffee cup ..... tha's some Bofors tooth !

two x 30mm profiles required, to laminate the main body, with some slightly smaller 10mms to give it a bit of shape, one either side ;)

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180128_16_45_06_Pro_zpsfy6sqb9g.jpg

excuse the quality of the sketching :vissla: .. was only a quick 'roughie', to suss the cut list :thumme:

reckon this, with 15t of 'Drema behind it, ought scare the beejeezus out of me rock bed, that's yet to come up  and a few niggly ones that're gonna need to come out the bank, lower down me patch. :vissla:

should also come in mighty handy, suitably sharpened up, :vissla: for dealing with a certain oak tree''s roots and stump :thummar: ..... a bit at a time, so's not to rip the bank to buggery !!

Bild
Originalets URL: http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y450/v8druid/my%20bucket%202/WP_20180128_16_43_18_Pro_zpsju4xn5vb.jpg

If anyone's got any commentary they'd care to share? ..... feel free !! :thummar: :bira:

It's going to be a fair lump, assembled up ....
it'd probably sit relatively well on its front, tooth up, but a stand/cradle to sit it in would make life easier, for sure and for shifting it about too. :vissla:
Be better than planting it in the deck and leaving holes about the place, so that's another one to knock out.... once I've got this together. :thumme:

I did consider hooking it around some more, :vissla: but I also want a degree of 'spike-ability' for tree stump/root demolition, which fully hooked would not be such an easy task.

this geometry is pretty close to that of my original buckets and damned near mimics my favorite Geith's geometry :thummar: .... and you all know how much I like that bucket

Frosty, cold old day, today  .... but still and dry !!

Guess what I've been having a play with

Bild

going to take a little getting used to on the settings, but after an hour or so i can safely say :vissla: ....... I like it  ...... A LOT!! :thummar:

Bild

had a few 18 mm holes to 'lose' ........ :vissla:

Bild

before I could crack on putting the last one together ..

Bild

NICE !!

REALLY wish I'd had this for VA-r building  ..... forgotten just how quick, easy and penetrative MIG is  .... well I hadn't but, was a nice reminder !!

lovely for down hand :thumme: .... or uphill, upside down, or any way you care to lay it down .....all positional pleasure ....  :thummar:

Bild

and no de-scaling/slaggin' off :hurra:

Bild

oh what a joy to use!!

Bild

biggest issue is breeze/wind  ... only had one brief moment's puff and 'airo bar' jobby, which the grinder soon takes care of :thumme: ..... as long as you can get at it.
A big downside though and I hate flux cored, with a passion. :aaargh:

Bild

bloody kicking my self for binning/skipping all my welding screens .... grrrrr!!! :aaargh: :aaargh:

finished off the tail of a roll, 'playing', :vissla: hence the second, unfinished, .... aside from Clara's arrival and it being treatment tuesday, so t'were early doors tonight .... :vissla:
bet it'll be lashing down again tomorrow

Sure as hell melts 25mm beautifully for hole filling .... :thumme:
start halfway down, in there and work yer way up washing into the hole walls, then flip it and go again .. with plenty of juice :thummar:

plus of course, there's that lovely smell ........... of burning Argoshield

only complaint so far, well two actually, is  (a) .... there's no trigger latching facility  and(b) the run on for the gas is overly long ... by quite a bit !!

Otherwise it runs a 5 metre torch sweet as, :thumme: as I'd expect of a 4 roller drive system :vissla: ... the soft start is smooth and for the inexperienced a real bonus.... :thummar:
and there's plen'y o' juice on tap !!! reckon it'd spray, real well.

Had a bit of a day out yesterday, for a change. :vissla:

Pam's D.I.L. was going up to her parents in Solihull, for a trip on the big white bird, this morning, to somewhere warm for 5 days.
So she'd suggested a meet up, for a few hours, so Pam could see Shem. :thumme:

Upton on Severn was decided upon ... easy access off the M5, ;) a decent little run out for us, at the top of the M50 :thumme: and not too far for Katie May, for her onward journey afterwards. :vissla:

PLUS .... I got to kill two birds ... had a machine in Pershore, I said I'd eyeball for Metod (Traktorist), on the CEF......

Granny had a great couple of hours .....

there wasn't a pin or bush on it, that hadn't got serious wear  ... an' I mean serious :uupps: .. 25mm back/fore on the king post  ..... in all directions, 25-30 mm of slop in the boom ram rods top eye  ... ditto the dipper, which'd been repaired and over plated ... poorly. Side slop was unreal, even the hitch was bollo-ed. :aaargh:

If it had seen grease, in it's life, before reaching this sale yard, I'd eat my hat. :vissla: :aaargh:
deplorable treatment of what felt a very nice tool... smooth as, on the sticks ... shame about the 70-80mm of side slop at the bucket.... :uupps: :uupps: :uupps:
Even the boom swing ram had 20mm of play in its eye .... 20mm FFS !!

HTF do you do that much 'damage' to such a nice tool .... and sleep !! :???:

had to be ex-hire ....

Needless to say I was there long enough to establish where all the wear was, :vissla: give it a good once over  and tell him it was worth half what he was asking IMHDO  ..... lorra lorra work .. every bush and pin !!! :aaargh:
WTF do folk feed you so much bull shit on the phone :???: .. do they like insulting peoples intelligence  ... or 'praps they like to be assailed with silly bids ... :vissla:
either way.... I'd have been a lot more annoyed with him, :myzsko: if I'd made the trip 'specially to see it. :driver:

TBH I didn't see anything in their yard that you would look at twice.

got three more, I've found local, to go eyeball Friday :thummar: .... I'm a lot more hopeful  ... I know where these came from and how they've been treated/looked after.
I'll be surprised if at least one doesn't head off to Ljubljana next week.

Nite all
