Volvo BM 616B TD60

Hello everybody ! I currently have a Volvo BM 616B D42 engine HS crankshaft, piston cylinder, HS starter crown.... I have 2800€ costs for the repair.

I wanted to change engines but I can't find any D42 D45 TD...
I got it into my head to want to put a TD60 in my BM 616 HT65 automatic gearbox, I'm afraid the gearbox will be difficult to hold? Do you have any advice? maybe a TD50 would be more suitable? change the gearbox and the engine?

I know that the 6 cylinders are longer and that it is necessary to adapt a little if some have already done so I am looking for advice

If anyone has an engine for sale I would be interested too!

On 6300 who has a corresponding engine it is rather common to swap for a Cummins 6cyl

it was tight it ran without oil I bought it like that

but I prefer to upgrade to a more popular engine like the td60 than to spend 2800€ in a D42... In France we don't find any of the D42 engines I couldn't find anything on the internet.

even finding a td60 is a bit complicated but it will be super nice to have an engine that is so nice to listen to and drive.

The LM 846 were equipped with D60a 125 horsepower with the HT65 I believe...

The d42 is a volvo made engine, in small numbers.

I would recomend to install a more common engine if you gonna swap it out.

Maybe perkins, ford, iveco, fiat or maybe some french commonly available.

yes that's what I would like to do having very little information on the possible assembly in Perkins I looked at the famous td60 which would pass on the gearbox without problem I have the d42 bell which adapts
(I'm passionate about Volvo ) I would have liked to keep a Volvo engine

Least amount of work with good success rate is to rebuild the engine you have. After that you never again have to do anything to it.

Crankshaft usually is repairable. They grind it.

You could send entire engine to a rebuild company and ask for a quote. Maybe shipping to sweden is worth it if no one closer wanna repair it.

The one in this ad is a replacement: you return your old motor and get a refurbished “as new”. I guess €3000 is a fair price. Note that you get paid for the old one when it’s returned.
Compare that with the cost to a swop to TD60

I made this quote unfortunately the crankshaft is approved (it is bent) it is not repairable and the total price of the repairs exceeds my budget...

yes it's for sure... a td60 I can find one for around €1500 delivered

my fears are more about the assembly and the gearbox if it can hold the power

I wouldn't worry too much about the transmission. The HT65 is sturdy, and was - as you previously said - mated with both D50 and D60 in wheel loaders 840, 841, 845 and 846
But don't expect a TD60 swap to be cheaper. Even though you can buy the motor for half the price, there are likely a lot of auxiliary components that needs replacing and/or modification.
